There is something particularly neat about the fact that we serve a God who pursues us. The Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the omnipotent all-knowing God pursues you.
I have heard so many people (Christian and non-Christian) say, “I am searching for God” – almost as though it is some type of hide and seek game with Him – we search for Him, we find Him, and then, all of a sudden, He hides again. So, we begin again “searching” for God.
We have it backwards. We treat it as though we are the hunters and He is the hunted. It is entirely the opposite. We are the hunted and He is the Hunter. He is pursuing after us.
We are the ones hiding. We are ones running. He is pursuing you.
It started early in Genesis with God calling out to Adam in the garden and continues throughout the Word into today’s time. Just look at Revelation 3:20:
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
This is quite simple. He is at the door knocking, desiring to come in and fellowship with us. We have full and complete control over allowing Him to enter. We have the sole decision on opening the door, or leaving it shut. We serve a gentle God.
Romans 5:8 says that Christ died for us on the Cross, WHILE we were still sinners. He pursues us, even in our separated state, going to the Cross.
Look at one of the most quoted Psalms. Psalms 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
It does not say, I will chase after goodness and mercy all the days of my life – but that goodness and mercy shall chase after me! That is why God pursues you. He desires to bless you! He desires to provide goodness and mercy to you. He desires fellowship with you, His created work of art!
Question: What does it mean to you that we serve a God that pursues us?
